New central division of the Unified Patent Court in Milan

On June 26, 2024, another central division of the Unified Patent Court (UPC), which will be based in Milan, will begin its active work. Originally, the central division was to be based in London as well as Paris and Munich. However, due to the UK's withdrawal from the EU, the unitary patent system cannot take effect in the UK, meaning that a new seat for the central division had to be determined. A corresponding decision was taken on 26.06.2023, which now comes into force.
